Estate Planning FAQs

Last Will & Testament

A Last Will & Testament is written instructions on how you want your assets divided among your heirs.  Whether your estate is large or small, we will work with you to prepare a personalized will reflecting your decisions.

Healthcare Directive

New Jersey permits you to identify a decision-maker (health care representative) and to provide medical professionals with clear written instructions regarding your treatment in the event that you are unable to communicate your wishes directly.  It is never easy to contemplate such future events, but putting a directive in place allows loved ones to know your decisions were followed.

Power of Attorney

A Durable Power of Attorney is a powerful document that gives another person authority over your assets and finances.  Although it is not appropriate for everyone, a Durable Power of Attorney can ease the burden of many families.  We can discuss the risks and benefits, and help you decide if it is right for you.

Guardianship

If you are concerned that a physical or mental illness prevents a loved one from taking care of themself, there are options to ensure their well-being.  A Power of Attorney is always preferred, but we can also help you obtain a court order of guardianship over a person and their finances.

Trusts

A trust can be created to reduce taxes or provide a financial plan for individuals who, due to age or disability, cannot manage their own financial affairs.  Every trust is a personalized document.  We are available to discuss whether this option is right for you.
